Erez Lirov

Erez started playing guitar at age 6 in Israel, learning Israeli folk songs in minor keys, and listening to a lot of classical music.  At age 10, when his family moved to NJ, Erez started playing Trumpet in the school band and taking private lessons.  He fell in love with the trumpet, playing in concert, jazz, and pit bands in high school, and later in Princeton, where he majored in Computer Science and was introduced to music theory.

Music theory helped spark Erez’s interest in piano, and it soon became a common sight to see him playing pop or country songs on the piano at various eating clubs, surrounded by singing classmates.

After graduating, Erez focused on building a medical billing software firm in NJ, while performing in the orchestra at various community musicals.  At one of these musicals, he met bassist Joe Peterson, who introduced him to jazz.  From the first time Erez sat in on Joe’s gig, Erez was hooked, and soon found himself spending hours memorizing tunes and practicing soloing over the changes on piano and trumpet.

These days, Erez plays with various bands in different styles and in various venues, but especially loves playing jazz tunes with The Jazz Syndicate.
