BIO

Ed Goode - Jazz SyndicateEd Goode - Bassist - Jazz SyndicateEd was introduced to the bass at the age of 8 through a grade school music program.  It was a natural fit and by age 12 he performed at his first paying gig.  At the age of 14 Ed was routinely playing at jazz and blues clubs throughout northern New Jersey.

Ed was awarded a scholarship to attend The Juilliard School of Music, starting when he was in the 8th grade, going to school at night in the Extension Division after finishing his regular school day.  He went to NYC on the bus about 2-3 days a week for 5 years, and finally finished up his studies 6 months after graduating, leading to his long career in music.

Ed’s musical background is primarily jazz, with a lot of R&B/funk tossed in there.  For most of his teens and throughout his 20’s Ed was a traditional jazz bassist, working in groups from as small as a piano duo to a 22 piece big band.  Most of these gigs required pretty extensive reading and working through arrangements, and fortunately his schooling has left him well prepared in his sight reading skills.   As Ed went into his 30′ and 40’s, the music definitely became more fusion driven, a mix of jazz and R&B/funk, but really still based on improvisation and group playing.

Today music is a very important part of Ed’ life.  No longer full-time, but just as meaningful to him as when it was his only means of income.  Ed plays every day, sometimes it may only be for a 1/2 hour or so, but he tries to play as much as he possibly can.
